Méolans-Revel: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Culture and History

The Maison du Bois is an interpretation center dedicated to the timber industry and alpine forests in Méolans-Revel. It welcomes visitors year-round in the forest landscape of Méolans-Revel. The Laverq Priory was founded in 1135 and elevated to an abbey in 1220. The present-day Saint Antoine church in Laverq, dedicated to Saint Anthony the Great, dates from the 15th century and is representative of the rural religious architecture of the Ubaye.

The former hydraulic sawmill in Méolans-Revel was built in 1936. During a guided tour of the former hydraulic sawmill, visitors can see the machinery and transmission room; a board is also sawn in front of visitors using hydropower. Today, the former hydraulic sawmill is dedicated to tours and demonstrations that show how sawyers worked in the 1950s.

The Saint-Jacques church in Revel, dedicated to Saint James the Greater, is very old, dates back to the 12th century, and is located on a rocky promontory above the Ubaye Valley. The church houses a 15th-century marble sculpture of Saint James. It also features a painting with a frame depicting John the Baptist.

Landscape and Hiking

The Laverq Valley was added to the register of the department’s picturesque landscapes in 1981. The longer Lavergan loop trail leads to the Belvédère du Duc and offers a panorama of the Laverq Valley and its mountains; the route takes three hours and is 3.3 kilometers long.

Activities

Kayak or rafting descents are offered on the Ubaye in Méolans-Revel. There are 107 climbing routes in the Chaudon sector in Méolans-Revel. The Rapid’eau Park offers rafting, kayak rafting, canoe rafting, hydrospeed, canyoning, and orienteering at a single location.

Aqua’Rider offers canyoning from its Base du Four à Chaux in Le Martinet, Méolans-Revel. Aqua’Rider canyoning includes rappelling, jumps, and natural slides in the beds of mountain streams. EVP Eau Vive Passion offers canyoning from its riverside location below the village of Méolans-Revel.

The Kid Park in Méolans-Revel offers a children’s treetop adventure course with two loops and features such as suspension bridges, vines, zip lines, rocks, tunnels, and kayaks. Aventura Park at Rapid’eau Park offers four courses for adults and three courses for children.

Production and Enjoyment

Distillerie Lachanenche produces organic alcoholic beverages without additives, extracts, or colorings, using fresh fruit, wild plants collected in the surrounding mountains, or organically produced ingredients. Founded by Nicole and Daniel Million Rousseau, the Lachanenche family distillery produces whisky, pastis, liqueurs, aperitifs, and spirits.
