Les Iles de Payré is a 22-hectare natural area on the Dive; 8 hectares of it consist of ponds and canals. Anyone planning a stay in Payré may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature
Les Iles de Payré includes a freely accessible outdoor fitness trail with 14 exercise modules; use is restricted to people aged 14 and over. Hiking trails lead from there into the Civraisien en Poitou. Fishing is also possible at Les Iles de Payré with a valid river fishing permit, and the Terra Aventura treasure hunt “L’Odyssée de la Grand’Goule” passes through here.
The Sentier Rivières et Moulins partly follows the valleys of the Dive and Bouleure rivers, which are characterised by mills; both rivers join the Clain in the municipality of Voulon. The trail passes the Les Iles de Payré leisure centre and also takes in, among other places, the church of Voulon, the Guron mill, the Fontou wash-house fountain, the former footbridge, and the chapel and fountain of Voulon.
Culture and history
In the Église Saint-Hilaire in Payré, a processional banner depicts a rare representation of Saint Hilary. Marcel Renault died in Payré on 26 May 1903 as a result of an accident during the 1903 Paris–Madrid race.
The Moulin de Preuillé is an old mill whose history dates back to well before the 15th century. At the Moulin de Preuillé, the canal runs beneath the barn door, under which the mill wheel once turned. The Moulin de Preuillé can only be visited by prior arrangement as part of a guided tour.
Local life
Le Rucher de la Sapée is a family-run business in Payré that produces honey and pollen. Its range of honey includes spring, summer, chestnut, acacia, buckwheat, alder buckthorn, and heather honey. By prior arrangement, Le Rucher de la Sapée offers a free guided honey tasting.
