The Grotte de La Marche contains a prehistoric archaeological site that was placed under protection by decree on 7 April 1970. The Fosse aux Loups hiking trail passes through the old medieval streets of Lussac-les-Châteaux to the Plateau des Chirons. It also leads through Lussac-les-Châteaux’s tanners’ quarter to the ruins of the feudal castle; the ruins can be reached via a small bridge over the pond, beside which the stone pillars of the former drawbridge are visible.

Depending on the route chosen, the Le gué de la biche hiking trail is between 5 km and 35 km long.

Townscape

At the entrance to the former medieval town of Lussac-les-Châteaux, the Font-Serein resurgence flows into the Grands Moulins stream. Since 1492, the Grands Moulins stream has fed the pond of Lussac-les-Châteaux, in whose waters the massive pillars of the medieval bridge stand.

Away from the centre of Lussac-les-Châteaux, hidden among boxwood and situated on a steep slope, stands a mysterious, partly dilapidated complex of buildings known as “l’Hermitage” or “La Léproserie”.

Transport

The Lussac-les-Châteaux tourist office can be reached by Départemental bus route 243 between Montmorillon and Chauvigny, as well as by TER line 24.
