Nueil-Les-Aubiers: holiday apartments and holiday homes

In the town centre of Nueil-les-Aubiers lies the 13-hectare Parc de loisirs du Val de Scie, a park for leisure and relaxation. The park has 2.5 kilometres of paths for walking and cycling. Those who choose Nueil-les-Aubiers as their place to stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.

Leisure and exercise

The Bike Park du Val de Scie is accessible both from the Voie verte towards Mauléon and from the Parc du Val de Scie.

The Bike Park du Val de Scie includes a practice area for children aged 6 to 9 to get familiar with and learn the basics, as well as three downhill tracks with varying levels of difficulty for older visitors.

There is also a free disc golf course at Val de Scie, open to all players. It has 18 baskets as well as tees for beginners and experienced players.

The Voie verte runs along a former railway line and connects Nueil-les-Aubiers with Bressuire over approximately 20 kilometres.

Culture and history

The three-nave parish church of Saint-Hilaire dates from the 12th century and was extended in the 15th century.

The Saint-Melaine church in Les Aubiers was rebuilt after a fire between 1865 and 1868; its 51-metre-high spire was built in 1886.

Three information panels at Clos des Erables commemorate the period when the Nantes–Vichy train stopped in Nueil-les-Aubiers. The “Chemin de Faire” exhibition also showcases the town’s railway heritage. It was created through the work of five artists.

History and walking tours

The present-day Château de Tournelay was created in 1820 by extending an earlier pavilion. The entire building complex of the private Tournelay estate is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments (ISMH).

The Château de Tournelay can be visited independently using a leaflet handed out at the entrance; a signposted route leads through the built-up part of the estate. In the grounds of Tournelay, paths run along the l’Argent river, through woods and beside two ponds.

Paths and landscapes

The Mémorial du Bois des Chèvres is the starting point for a short hike. Nueil-les-Aubiers also has the “Le temps nous est gare” Tèrra-Aventura geocaching trail. The Tèrra-Aventura trail uses a completely free app, with which clues are solved and the treasure and the “Zart” Poïz are found.

The Vélidéale cycle route from Nueil-les-Aubiers to Mauléon follows a road typical of the Bocage, bordered by fields lined with trees and hedges.

Nature

A 1.5-hour guided tour is offered at Body Nature. The tour at Body Nature includes the cultivation of the Red Vine. It also presents various renewable energy sources on a 125-hectare site where biodiversity is preserved.
