The Church of Notre-Dame de La Peyratte was built at the beginning of the 12th century under the aegis of Sainte-Croix de Talmont Abbey and was classified as a historic monument in 1913. Its single-nave stone structure has a pointed barrel vault that ends in a square Romanesque bell tower and a flat-ended chancel.

In 1645, Charles II commissioned the construction of a 19-foot-long causeway on the Thouet, which led to the creation of La Forge à Fer.
