Pamproux combines the listed Halle de Pamproux and the Église Saint-Maixent with the La Côte-Belet natural area and various cultural and leisure activities.

Culture

The Halle de Pamproux was built around 1700. As a whole, it was listed as a Monument historique by decree of 28 June 2011. The hall also hosts a weekly market.

The Église Saint-Maixent consists of a single nave with five bays and retains the church’s two-storey arcaded bell tower dating from the 12th century. It was classified as a Monument historique by decree of 10 February 1913. The former priory adjoins the Église Saint-Maixent and retains a significant octagonal staircase from the 15th century.

The ruins of the Abbaye royale Notre-Dame des Châtelliers, the Abbatiale de Saint-Maixent-l'École monastery and the Sainte-Eanne church are located in the vicinity of Pamproux. The historic Prieuré de la Salette site is also located in the wider region around Pamproux.

Nature and trails

La Côte-Belet is designated at département level as an Espace Naturel Sensible and is managed by the Conservatoire d’Espaces Naturels de Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The natural area reaches an altitude of 117 metres and offers a viewpoint over the surrounding area. La Côte-Belet has a 500-metre educational trail for families.

The Tèrra-Aventura route “Le lièvre et la tortou” begins in the historic centre of Pamproux, passes through La Côte-Belet and continues to the prehistoric tumulus site of Bougon. The Feuille de vigne trail connects the centre of Pamproux with La Côte-Belet. La Côte-Belet can be explored on foot or by bicycle, with consideration for the fauna and flora.

Experiences

The Micro-Folie de Pamproux presents several thousand digitised artworks from regional, national and international museums on large screens and tablets. It also has a virtual reality area and educational video games, as well as themed workshops on artistic practice.

Founded in 2015, Parc-Elevage Del Sol is a private animal park visited accompanied by a breeder. Parc-Elevage Del Sol offers the “soigneur d'un jour” activity, in which visitors learn about the daily work of an animal keeper. Among other animals, Poitevin goats and Poitou donkeys can be seen there.

The Piscine municipale Edmond Audis offers swimming lessons in all four strokes, from beginner to advanced level. The programme also includes courses for overcoming aquaphobia, aquagym and Fit'palme.
