Culture and history

The Abbaye Royale is a 17th-century abbey rebuilt on the remains of an abbey complex dating from the 11th century. Visitors can explore it with an audio guide that conveys 1,000 years of its history. The Abbaye Royale also hosts exhibitions every year.

The Musée des motos anciennes displays a collection of 45 motorcycles dating from 1903 to the 1960s. French, British, German, American, Belgian and Italian manufacturers are represented.

The Romanesque Église Saint-Maixent, dating from the 11th century, is located in Verrines-sous-Celles. The listed and fully restored building has slate roofs and cornices decorated with animal figures.

Poetry and special discoveries

The Promenoir poétique, accessible year-round, follows a local cultural trail. Visitors can combine a walk with reading poetry there. In Celles-sur-Belle, you can also take part in a digital treasure hunt with the free Terra Aventura app, explore the town in a fun way and search for a hidden treasure.

Every year, Celles-sur-Belle organises the “Semaines Poétiques Celloises”. These include poetry performances, the creation of collections of poems with pupils, and visits by poets.
