Nature

The Argenton River runs through Argenton-l'Église. The two valleys in Argenton-l'Église are home to rare plant and animal species and are classified as ZNIEFF (Natural Area of Ecological, Faunal and Floristic Interest).

Culture

The Pont de Taizon was built in the 13th century to cross the Thouet. The Pont de Taizon (ancien), which also concerns the municipalities of Bagneux and Saint-Martin-de-Sanzay and is located on the Thouet, was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 22 September 1943. Today, the surviving arches of the old Pont de Taizon are visible because the surrounding areas are regularly maintained.

The Église Saint-Hilaire was restored and extended in the 17th century. Its nave dates from the 15th century.

La Roche was a fortified site in the Middle Ages that defended the crossing over the Argenton. The Château de la Roche is a private 19th-century complex in the Neo-Renaissance style, built from tuffeau stone.

Local information

There are two fishing jetties for people with reduced mobility: one upstream of the Chaussée des Planches and one upstream of the Crêle weir.

The ÃŽlots des Planches picnic area welcomes visitors all year round and offers seven tables, a water connection and a swing; the free site is shaded.

The fishing stretch on the Argenton is designated along both banks from the Moulin de Preuil in the municipality of Bouillé-Saint-Paul to the villages of Sault. The fishing stretch on the Thouet is designated along the left bank from the Gué to the Moulin de Bagneux.

For Argenton-l'Église, the Foire aux charrues is listed as taking place on the second weekend in March.
