Le Tâtre: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The parish church of Saint-Jean was formerly the chapel of a Templar commandery. The history of the town also includes the Monument commémoratif à Paul Nozal: following the accidental death of Paul Nozal on 13 July 1903, the architect Hector Guimard created this monument in Le Tâtre. It is also Hector Guimard’s only architectural work in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The Monument commémoratif à Paul Nozal is located in Les Bitauds on the outskirts of the RN10 in Le Tâtre. By decree of 9 April 2021, it was listed as a historic monument.

Another historic site is Les Tuileries, a former brickworks in the municipality of Le Tâtre that has been designed for educational purposes. It presents brickmaking first in its traditional artisanal form and then in its mechanized form. Les Tuileries is located in Chez Grelier in Le Tâtre, near the greenway.

Notre-Dame du Deffend also bears witness to a long religious history: a pilgrimage there has been documented since at least 1525. The statue of Notre-Dame du Deffend is a very old polychrome wooden statue of uncertain date.

Nature and Outdoor Activities

From Le Tâtre, the Galope Chopine greenway offers a 21.5 km route for walking, riding scooters, horseback riding and cycling. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility. In Le Tâtre, access to the Galope Chopine greenway is by the cemetery in La Virée.

The Galope Chopine greenway is a way to discover the southern Charente countryside with its valleys and vineyards. Along the same route, various forms of transport complement the experience of the landscape.
