Culture and History
In Lachaise, the clearly visible traces of a levelled feudal motte surrounded by a ditch have been preserved; the associated fortifications date back to at least the 12th century.
Several sections of the walls of the Moulin de la Ménarde have been preserved, including the entrance door, the water supply channel with an impressive waterfall today, and a large millstone buried beneath the branches. The Moulin de la Ménarde probably dates from the early 18th century.

Landscape and Trails
The PAPSE route starts in Valfontaine Village and is 9.8 kilometres long. It follows the Ruisseau des Fontaines Blanches. Along the route, visible traces of an old feudal motte can be seen in Lachaise. The PAPSE route passes through the agricultural and wine-growing landscape of Petite Champagne, the second Cognac cru area. A two-hundred-year-old black poplar with a trunk circumference of 7.30 metres also stands along the route.
