The Écuras priory church dates back to the 11th century and forms the surviving core of a significant former priory complex. It retains all the elements of its original layout: the nave, the apse-ended choir, the crossing, and the two present-day sacristies, which originally had barrel vaults.

The Saint-Étienne spring was reputed to cure numerous illnesses, particularly incontinence and bleeding. In the centre of Écuras, ÉcurArts aims to develop and organise exhibitions, workshops and seminars.

Nature

Écuras is characterised by wooded, hilly and green landscapes. The Vallée de la Renaudie nature reserve extends across Montbron, Écuras and Rouzède and encompasses diverse habitats created by the meeting of limestone and granite soils, supporting numerous animal and plant species. The area is accessible via three themed trails: the 4 km Biodiversity Trail, the 3.5 km Geology Trail and the 3 km Water Trail.

For the Village Le Chat bathing area in Écuras, the 2026 bathing season was scheduled to run from 1 June to 1 October. As a precaution, bathing was prohibited at Village Le Chat from 27 July 2026. After green-coloured water was observed, bathing at Village Le Chat was closed as a precaution due to suspected cyanobacteria.

Activities

Domaine des Limousines is a centre for equestrian tourism and horse boarding in the municipality of Écuras. It offers one- to two-hour rides, either alone or in groups, as well as half-day, full-day and multi-day horseback tours.

There are climbing rocks within the municipality of Écuras. Écuras’s hiking trails can be used on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback.

In 2013, the municipality of Écuras restored the fountains and washhouses in 16 villages and connected them via two hiking trails.
