Saint-Hilaire-du-Bois: Holiday apartments and houses

Nature

In the wet valley of the Maine, a small watercourse flows through a narrow floodplain. The landscape consists of a mosaic of riverside woodland, poplar stands, grassland and agricultural land. The numerous forest areas of Saint-Hilaire-du-Bois cover around 230 hectares, or approximately one-third of the municipal area.

Along the Maine, there is a large green space in the village centre with a pond and several play and leisure facilities.

Culture

The Église Saint-Hilaire has been mentioned since as early as the 11th century. The nave and the bay beneath the bell tower display Romanesque features. The choir was rebuilt in the 14th century and preserves traces of wall paintings.

By decree of 5 December 2000, the Église Saint-Hilaire was listed as a historic monument. Also in the village centre, the Pont sur la Maine is part of the rural heritage associated with water.

History

From the end of the 19th century until 1990, the village dairy employed 28 people. The dairy processed milk collected within a radius of 20 km into butter and cheese. Goat cheese from the dairy was sold as far away as Rungis.

Geographical setting

The RD 699 provides access to Saint-Hilaire-du-Bois from the A10 motorway. The RD 2 is located north of Saint-Hilaire-du-Bois.
