Les Mathes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature

The Zoo de La Palmyre is home to more than 1,600 mammals, birds and reptiles from 110 different species. It is located in an 18-hectare pine forest and is open all year round, including on public holidays.

The Forêt de la Coubre was created through the planting of the dunes, which began in 1824. This planting was intended to contain the movement of the sand.

Culture

The Église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte was first mentioned in 1043. Its nave was extended, and a bell tower with a porch was built; construction work on it was completed in 1911.

Local Life

A market takes place every Friday morning throughout the year in Les Mathes. From 1 July to 31 August, there is also a market on Tuesdays.

In La Palmyre, daytime markets take place on Wednesday and Sunday mornings from 5 April to 30 September. From 17 June to 26 August, there is a night market on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. In addition, night markets take place on 1, 8 and 15 May.

Water

Base Nautique La Palmyre offers windsurfing, kitesurfing, wing foiling and stand-up paddleboarding in the Bay of Bonne Anse, which is protected from the Atlantic swell by a large sandbank. Base Nautique La Palmyre also offers catamarans, kayaks, paddleboarding and wing foiling.

Notes

Swimming in the access channel to the port of La Palmyre is prohibited. Access to and the use of bicycles in the dunes and their surroundings, as well as on the beach within the Bay of Bonne Anse, are also prohibited all year round.
