In Beauquesne, the motte castrale in the ruelle du Vieux Château is the surviving remains of a castle built in the 12th century by Philippe d’Alsace, Count of Flanders and Vermandois. Beauquesne Castle was demolished in 1593 at the instigation of the aldermen’s office of Amiens.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint John the Baptist was built at the end of the 19th century in the Romanesque Revival style. It preserves the bell tower of the former 13th-century building. The bell tower of the church in Beauquesne is partially protected as a historic monument; it was listed by decree of 4 March 1926.

During the First World War, Valvion was the headquarters of the English forces commanded by Field Marshal Haig. During the strategic planning of the First World War, Valvion hosted King George V, President Poincaré and General Foch. The Château du Valvion adjoins a model farm dating from the late 19th century, whose typical architecture takes the shape of a horseshoe.

Events

Since 1992, the « Culture à la ferme » association has organised the « Comiques agricoles » festival every year. In Beauquesne, it takes place in the courtyard of a former farm; exhibitions can be seen in the barns. The Somme département supports the « Les Comiques agricoles » festival held in Beauquesne.

Hiking

The « Le Tortillard » hiking trail is a 12 km route between Terramesnil and Beauquesne. The hike starts at the car park opposite Beauquesne cemetery. During the hike, there is an opportunity to reach Beauquesne via the Vallée des Preux.
