Essuiles: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Church of Saint Martin in Essuiles is a building dating from the 12th and 15th centuries. It contains an equestrian statue of Saint Martin, a gilded wooden altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary from the 15th century, and the painting “Songes de saint Martin”.
Those who choose Essuiles as a travel destination can combine their stay with plans to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture
When opened, the “Passion” retable depicts scenes from the Passion and Resurrection of Christ. With divided picture panels, it dates from the first half of the 16th century. When closed, it depicts episodes from the life of a saint who can be identified with Saint Nicholas. The retable is a locally made work from the Beauvais area that imitates Antwerp and Brussels models. The Church of Saint Martin also contains a wooden lectern in the Louis XVI style from the 18th century.
Historical and artistic evidence can also be found outside Saint Martin. The former castle chapel, Chapelle Saint-Jacques, has survived to this day. The Chapel of Saint-Rimault has origins dating back to before 1220. The “Vierge en majesté” statue in the Church of Saint-Rimault is a carved and polychrome-painted wooden sculpture. The ornamental garden of the Château de Saint-Rimault is listed in the French General Inventory of Cultural Heritage.
The Saint-Rimault water tower bears a mural created in 1992; it is visible in the surrounding area.
History
The fief of la Motte included a fortified castle in a marshy area, surrounded by moats. In earlier times, the present-day Ferme de la Tour included a chapel and a château.
