To the north, the Marne borders Chierry; through the Bois Pierre, the town rises up the valley slope to the edge of the plateau.
Landscape
Chierry’s green spaces include Parc Bellevue. La Tuèterie extends across 25 hectares of hilly, tree-covered pastureland.
Culture
Saint-Leu is considered one of the side aisles of a larger church that was partially destroyed during the French Revolution. Its bell tower was built in 1855, and the bell was blessed on 10 April 1858.
Chierry’s war memorial stands in a small public garden near the town hall and serves as a venue for commemorative ceremonies. It was inaugurated in the summer of 1921 and commemorates 24 young men who were honoured as victims after the First World War.
The Ferme de la Toiterie was once owned by the family of Jean de La Fontaine. La Tuèterie is a historic farm dating from the 15th century that belonged to Jean de La Fontaine. Jean de La Fontaine wrote some of his fables at La Tuèterie.
Hiking
The documented hike began at the car park of Saint-Leu Church and followed the Marne to Blesmes. The documented hike crossed the Dhuys aqueduct to the Bois Pierre and then descended towards Les Evaux and Moulin des Prés.
Location
Chierry is located just outside Château-Thierry. Via the A4 motorway, the town is approximately 45 minutes from Reims.
