Bouffignereux is located on a stream at the entrance to the Aisne Valley. The Bois de Gernicourt area is home to relict calcareous grasslands (Mesobromion), which are restricted to fringes and verges. It also contains thermophilous fringes described as very rare in Picardy. The Bois de Gernicourt area lies in the municipalities of Gernicourt and Bouffignereux.

History and Local Culture
Bouffignereux formerly belonged to Saint-Pierre de Reims Abbey. The historic character of the village also includes Bouffignereux-Guyencourt railway station, which operated for passenger and freight transport from 1905 to 1938.
