Sigournais: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sigournais is home to the Château de Sigournais, an example of feudal military architecture in the Vendée. The Château de Sigournais features a fortified enclosure, arrow slits and gun ports, as well as a fully covered chemin de ronde with machicolations. The stately residential wing houses a collection of 800 territorial coats of arms.

Nature and Trails

Two hiking trails, measuring 2.9 km and 8.4 km, start at the Zone de loisirs de la Morlière. The Zone de loisirs de la Morlière also features trails with picnic tables, deckchairs and benches, and has been awarded the “Tourisme & Handicap” label. There is also a children’s playground with a zip line and a fitness trail.

The “Sigournais historique” circular trail begins at Place Robert de Lespinay and leads to the church and its painted wooden altarpiece.

History

The Sentier des cabanes de vigne leads to huts built from stones removed from the fields. The vineyard huts along the Sentier des cabanes de vigne served as shelters in rainy weather.

The regional wine tradition is also associated with a historical name: the white wine “La Folle” was famous in the region in the 17th century.

In the vicinity of Sigournais are the Manoir des sciences museum, the Château du Lac castle and the historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Grainetière.
