At Bazoin, the Sèvre Niortaise, its tributary the Mignon, the small Vieux Béjou river and the Nouveau Béjou Canal converge. The waterways are regulated by four weirs and two locks, forming a complex water-management system that is still active today. The Bazoin site extends across Maillé and Damvix in the Vendée département and La Ronde in the Charente-Maritime département.
The Circuit pédestre Les Rainettes circular walking route is an easy, 9-kilometre hike starting from Damvix, taking approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. It leads through the wetland of the Marais poitevin and to the Bazoin locks, where several canals converge. The return route follows the Sèvre Niortaise, which is lined with traditional houses.
