Challans: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the Parc de loisirs de la Sablière, the orienteering course comprises 41 markers distributed throughout the park. The health trail there has a fitness module between the two children's playgrounds. Challans also has a disc golf course with nine baskets as targets.

Culture and History

The Romanesque-inspired chapel of Coudrie is classified as a historic monument. It dates from the 12th century, was remodelled in the 15th century, and is the last surviving remnant of a former Templar commandery built in 1130. The Commanderie de Coudrie is also a 12th-century building classified as a historic monument and was remodelled in the 15th century.

The 4.8-kilometre Challans heritage trail leads past further evidence of the town's history. The Garage Moderne has a mosaic façade designed by the architect Marcel Naleau and executed by the artist Isidore Odorico. The bell tower of Challans was built between 1862 and 1865 and survived after the old church was demolished in 1899.

The Manoir de la Coursaudière manor house was built at the beginning of the 17th century. Notre Dame Church is neo-Gothic and was built from 1897 onwards; inside, fourteen pink granite columns support the choir and nave. The Quincaillerie Bailly building preserves evidence of Challans's commercial history.

Events

Autrefois Challans organises an old-fashioned fair in Challans town centre on four Thursdays during the summer.
