Trails through vineyards and bocage

The signposted “Entre vignes et campagne” walking trail is 13.5 kilometres long and starts at Brem-Sur-Mer town hall. It passes through the local wine-growing area and by historic place and field names, including La Mignotière and La Crulière. The “Vignes et campagne” circular trail also runs through vineyards and typical bocage landscapes. A menhir in a field can be seen from the trail.

There are two circular cycling routes, measuring 6.8 and 12.1 kilometres. One passes through the Saint Nicolas quarter, with its church, and leads to the former fishing village of La Gachère; the other runs through the commune’s vineyards. This means you can take both the distance and the route descriptions into account when planning. Two wine-tourism trails also pass through the Brem terroir and visit the commune’s winegrowers. Several wineries along the “Vignes et campagne” circular trail offer tours and tastings. Check with individual wineries in advance about visits. Since spring 2011, the wines have carried the “Fiefs Vendéens Brem AOC” designation.

Churches and traces of history

The Romanesque church of Saint Nicolas stands in the Saint Nicolas quarter. Built in the 11th century, the church dates from before 1020 and is listed as a historic monument. There is a Hosanna cross in the cemetery beside the church. Another religious site is the former Saint Martin pilgrimage chapel, built by monks in the 11th century.

The menhir at La Crulière is also known as “la Pierre du Diable” and has been listed as a historic monument since 1934. La Vigie in La Crulière was once a customs post. Wooden steps lead to the motte féodale, a burial mound from which you can see the church of Saint Nicolas. Each of these places offers a concrete point of connection to a different part of the area’s history.

Marshland, village scenery and water activities

La Gachère is a small, typical fishing village, with marshland, narrow lanes, low whitewashed houses and colourful boats. The small bridge offers a 360-degree panorama. One of the circular cycling routes leads to this former fishing village; its village scenery is quite different from the vineyards and bocage landscapes along the routes.

In the marshes of La Chabossière, active visitors can go kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Activities may vary depending on the season and provider; check whether they are available during your stay before making plans. Jumelage de Brem offers families another activity to enjoy together: guided low-tide fishing on the rocks, followed by oysters and white wine on the return. During the season, there are also themed tours, including a cultural and historical tour of the church of Saint Nicolas with a local guide. Evening walks featuring stories and legends of Brem also take place seasonally; bring a torch. Check tour dates before your trip.

Breaks and active pursuits in town

Parc des Genêts in the town centre is a green space designed for picnics. Its facilities include an open-air stage, children’s play equipment, a boules court and a multi-sports court. In the Vallée de l’Ecours, a fitness trail runs alongside the Ecours stream. A leisure park with water slides and mini golf is also part of Brem-Sur-Mer’s recreational offering; check current opening hours before visiting.

The area offers a variety of ways to combine active pursuits with quieter moments: you can focus on routes and wine growing, visit historic sites or set aside time for a break at Parc des Genêts. Use the experiences that matter most to your trip planning to guide your search for a holiday rental.
