Culture and history

One of the notable landmarks in Écommoy is the Église Saint-Martin. It is protected in its entirety as a historic monument, was built from 1840 onwards, and is considered the first Neo-Gothic church in the département.

A medieval legend tells that the megaliths of the Pierres Tournantes, each weighing approximately 10 to 15 tonnes, rise at night and spin through the air. The Pierres Tournantes can be seen in the Landes du Rhonne. During the construction of the A28 motorway, they were relocated and re-erected at a site designed for tourists and walkers.

The Allée de Fontenailles also points to an earlier era: it was laid out during the reign of Louis XIV by the king's gardener.
