Le Bignon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Wooded areas and the plots adjoining the two rivers, the Ognon and the Doitté, are designated protected natural areas.

The Circuit Découverte du Bignon follows small roads and farm tracks along the municipality’s northern boundaries. The route runs near the vegetable-growing areas known for Nantes lamb’s lettuce and Nantes lily of the valley, as well as in the immediate vicinity of the Nantes wine-growing region.

The Circuit des Bauches passes through coppice woodland and bocage in the west of the municipality. It includes the preserved Petit Bois des Bauches, which is considered a remnant of the former, larger Forêt de Touffou.

The Parc municipal du Pré du Bourg offers a pond, footpaths, picnic tables and a children’s recreational area in a family-friendly setting.

The Île Beaulieu, Parc du Crapa and Jardin des Plantes are located in the vicinity of Le Bignon. The Île la Chenaie lies in the wider regional area around Le Bignon.

Culture

The new Saint-Martin church in Le Bignon, built towards the end of the 19th century, was laid out at right angles to the existing church; only the old bell tower was retained. The former bell tower of the Saint-Martin church was demolished in 1967 and replaced by the present reinforced-concrete bell tower.

The historic Abbaye de Villeneuve site is located in the immediate vicinity of Le Bignon. The Machines de l'île museum, the Musée Jules-Verne and the Musée de l'imprimerie are also located near Le Bignon.

The Château de l’Epinay was rebuilt by Louis Joseph de Mélient on the site of a château destroyed in 1794. The Château de l’Epinay includes a private chapel built in 1830 and the Mélient family coat of arms.

The États de Bretagne, which met in Nantes, ordered the destruction of the Château de Touffou; its stones were used to pave the Nantes–La Rochelle road.
