Culture
The Château in Bimare is located in Saint-Germain-des-Essourts. Its main construction phase took place in the first half of the 19th century. The main building is made of limestone and brick and has a slate roof.
The Église Saint-Germain was rebuilt in the 18th century. It houses a painted and gilded wooden high altar with stucco moulding, an oak pulpit and wooden church pews dating from the 19th century. The reredos on its west wall date from the 17th century.
The Château de Fontaine-Châtel was built on the remains of a fortress. In 1418, the English, allied with the Burgundians, attacked Normandy and captured the Château de Fontaine-Châtel on their return from Agincourt. According to tradition, the Château de Fontaine-Châtel burned down three times.
The parish was recorded under the name Saint-Germain-de-Fontibus in 1593. The cemetery adjoining the Église Saint-Germain contains the grave of Victor Marcadé, a lawyer and author born in Rouen who died in 1854.
