Culture

The Muséum de Rouen opened to the public in 1834 and preserves almost 800,000 objects from all scientific disciplines. The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen houses paintings, sculptures, drawings and works of art from the late Middle Ages to the present day. Outside Paris, it has France's largest collection of Impressionist paintings, including numerous well-known works by Monet and Sisley.

The contemporary art triennial “Rouen Impressionnée” expanded Rouen's urban art collection by 25 new murals in 2016. Rouen has secular and religious buildings dating from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Heritage

The Musée maritime, fluvial et portuaire in Rouen explores the history of the port, the merchant navy, inland navigation, as well as shipbuilding and ship repairs. Rouen's tourist office offers weekly guided tours of the historical, natural, industrial and cultural heritage; the meeting point is Place de la cathédrale.

Aboard the excursion boat “La Lutèce”, you can explore the Seine and its port facilities on a narrated harbour tour.

Nature

The Rouen Normandy metropolitan area has 500 kilometres of secured and signposted hiking trails ranging from 1.5 to 40 kilometres in length. The La Seine à Vélo route crosses 28 municipalities in the Rouen Normandy metropolitan area over a distance of 110 kilometres.

The promenade on Île-Lacroix in Rouen includes a cycle path. The Jardin des Plantes is considered one of Rouen's gardens.
