Culture

The “Neufchâtel d’hier et d’aujourd’hui” tourist trail tells the history of Neufchâtel-en-Bray through 16 information panels. The collections at the Musée Mathon-Durand cover archaeology, decorative arts, ethnology, history, as well as technology and industry. Since 17 September 2003, the museum has held the French designation “Musée de France” within the meaning of French heritage legislation.

A reconstructed area dedicated to Neufchâtel, Normandy’s oldest AOP cheese, has been set up in an original vaulted cellar.

Routes through the landscape and heritage

The 6 km “Marie-Cloche” circular route runs between nature and heritage in the heart of Pays de Bray. It takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and starts and ends at the Gare de l’Avenue Verte.

The “Boucle de la chapelle” route passes by part of Neufchâtel-en-Bray’s architectural heritage, along the banks of the Béthune and Lake Aulnes. It is 4.5 km long and takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Regional specialities

The Neufchâtel market takes place every Saturday morning and offers regional products from local producers. Under the Fromage Hall at Place du 11 Novembre, locally produced Neufchâtel cheese bearing the AOP designation is available.

Neufchâtel is a cheese with an AOC designation and is available in four named shapes: Briquette, Carré, Bonde and Cœur.
