In Camembert, the local cheese tradition begins at the Maison du Camembert. It is located in an authentic 18th-century Norman farmhouse in the village of Camembert. The Maison du Camembert museum showcases the history of the famous Norman cheese and the secrets of its production over time – from traditional production on Norman farms to today’s cheese dairies. At the end of the visit to the Maison du Camembert, a plate with three pieces of Camembert is offered to compare pasteurized, thermized, and raw-milk Camemberts.
The Church of Notre-Dame et Sainte-Anne dates essentially from the 16th century. Its rectangular structure is made of limestone and rubble stone; a slate tower stands above the west façade. The church contains a painted wooden work entitled “Education of the Virgin” from the 16th century. In addition, a painting by Pingard from 1772 commemorates the pilgrimage of the Camembert parish brotherhood to Mont-Saint-Michel on September 24, 1772.

Culinary Delights
In the center of Camembert, the Fromagerie de Beaumoncel produces hand-ladled, farmhouse-made Camembert de Normandie AOP. Camembert de Normandie owes its name to the village of Camembert. The Fromagerie Durand produces authentic raw-milk Camembert AOP, which is molded using a ladle. There, a self-guided tour through an outdoor gallery provides insights into the molding room, the salting room, and the aging rooms. The Fromagerie Durand shop sells the cheese and cream produced there, as well as local products.
Routes
The 26 km circular route “A vélo – Pays du Camembert” runs between Vimoutiers and the village of Camembert, following in the footsteps of Marie Harel. The “Vélo et Fromages de Camembert à Livarot” route begins in the village of Camembert. At the Ferme bio de l’Instière, guided tours with or without tasting are available by reservation.
