Boucé: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Boucé combines distinctive traces of local history with protected cultural heritage and a diverse natural environment. The Motte féodale in Cordey, Boucé, is a fortified structure. It dates from the 10th or 12th century and has a circumference of 180 metres at its base. Since 10 June 1975, it has been protected as a historic monument.

Culture and history

The Grosse Forge metalworks comprised a blast furnace, a refining plant and a rolling mill, all documented in 1641. The metalworks ceased operations in 1865; two restored workers’ houses have been preserved on the site.

The statue of Saint Peter is also part of the local history. It is a carved wooden sculpture, 200 centimetres tall, dating from the 19th century. The statue was displayed in the presbytery of the Church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul in Boucé and was entered in the register of protected movable cultural heritage on 17 June 1981.

Nature

The Natura 2000 site FR2500099 includes Boucé. It consists predominantly of wet semi-natural and mesophilous meadows, accounting for 80 percent. Inland waters account for 10 percent, while marshes, fens and peat bogs account for 4 percent.

Around Boucé, a marked educational trail approximately 2.6 kilometres long leads through the floodplain meadows. It explains their importance and provides information about dragonflies, European pond turtles and rare aquatic plants. On a former fairground, the educational trail in Boucé has an information board explaining the river dynamics of the Orne and the use of the meadows for fodder production in the 18th century.
