Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the hamlet of Grande Taute in Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin stands the Manoir du Grand Taute. The protected complex comprises the manor house, the cider press, the bakery, stables and barn, a water basin with the adjoining ditches, and the site of the former garden. These elements were placed under protection by decree of 4 June 1993. The old cider press at the Manoir du Grand Taute houses a granite apple-turning device and a press with a long pressing mechanism.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Laurent is one of the very rare hall churches in the Manche department. Its nave dates from the 13th century, while the fortified bell-tower porch dates from the 14th century.

The 19th-century market halls of Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin have been preserved unchanged. The Château des Mares dates from the 18th century. The “Les Romains, les Calvaires” route follows the Roman road D535, which connected Abrincae, the Roman name for Avranches, with Alauna, Valognes. The route from the town hall to the cemetery is given as the recommended starting point for this circuit.

Countryside and Greenway

The Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin section of the Greenway passes through bocage landscapes and marshland. The Greenway follows the former railway line that connected Coutances with Sottevast between 1884 and 1972. The Greenway provides access to Coutances and its rich cultural heritage.
