Culture and history

The Tour de l'Ancienne Église, locally also known as the “Vieille Tour”, is the oldest building in Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët and dates from the 15th century. The tower of the former church is partially classified as a historic monument; the classification took place on 23 April 1921.

The Église Saint-Hilaire was built in the 19th century on the initiative of Canon Amboise Carnet by the Norman architect Nicolas Théberge, on the site of the Château de Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët. After being destroyed by fire in June 1944, it is considered one of the symbols of the town's reconstruction. The Église Saint-Hilaire houses a reliquary bust of Saint Hilary in a reliquary display case in the north aisle of the choir.

At the Manoir du Jardin, the façades and roofs of the manor house and its chapel are protected. The Manoir du Jardin is partially listed as a historic monument; the listing took place on 27 December 1974.
