Culture and history
The Ancienne redoute in Ravenoville was built in the second half of the 17th century. It bears witness to the coastal defence of Cotentin under the Ancien Régime. Including its ditches, but excluding the building inside, it was listed as a Monument historique by decree of 14 September 1992.
The Château was severely damaged in 1944 and demolished in 1955.
Coast and townscape
Ravenoville beach is lined with a series of former huts, some of which have been converted into houses that open onto the sea. A bunker reinforces the stone seawall on the beach. The colourful beach huts are among Ravenoville’s original features.
Ravenoville’s coastal heritage also includes small fishermen’s houses and small cottages that accommodated the population from inland areas.
Activities
The GR®223 includes a 26 km stage from Carentan via Utah Beach to Ravenoville. Fishing is possible on Ravenoville beach. For outings with family or friends, Ravenoville provides picnic tables and playgrounds.
