History and Culture

At the Protestant site of Le Chêne Guérin, on the boundary between the municipalities of Le Chefresne, Margueray, Montabot and Gouvets, a cemetery was established in 1612. The Protestant temple there was destroyed in 1679 during the persecution.

The Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Gorgon Church is dedicated to Our Lady and Saint Gorgon. Its high altar dates from 1712, and eight stained-glass windows by Gabriel Loire have illuminated it since 1951. It has a 17th-century granite baptismal font with a flat cover, as well as a statue of the Vierge à l’Enfant with a trompe-l’œil niche. The statue dates from the beginning of the 19th century and the trompe-l’œil niche from the 18th century; both have been officially listed as protected movable objects since 24 August 1990.

The D975 departmental road runs through Margueray.
