Culture and history
The Grotte de Créances was inaugurated on 16 May 1929 and is considered an exact copy of the Grotto of Lourdes. Ceremonies with torchlight processions take place at the grotto on 15 August and 8 December.
Créances has two churches, including one in the village of Le Buisson. A washhouse was built at Pont de la Goutte in 1908.
Trails and nature
The Sentier du littoral passes through Créances and then continues along the sea. Les mielles de Créances is an easy, 8 km circular hike with a stated duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Les dunes de Créances – Sentier de découverte is an easy 2.5 km walking trail with a stated duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes. The trail is designated as an educational and interpretation trail. Beach fishing is possible at Créances beach.
Local character
The coastal sandy plots known as Les Mielles lie protected behind the dunes and are used for growing vegetables. The carotte des sables de Créances received the Label Rouge in 1962.
At the Fête de la Carotte, visitors can taste local soupe à la graisse. The Fête de la Carotte takes place every year on the second Saturday in August.
In the area around Créances beach, the Havre de Saint-Germain-sur-Ay combines preserved nature with the traditional raising of sheep on salt meadows.
