On the GR 223 to the Pont de la Roque, hikers cross salt marshes via ladders. Along the GR 223 route, picnic tables are available at the Pont de la Roque for a break before the final section towards Regnéville-sur-Mer begins.
The Pont de la Roque is currently interrupted for bicycle and pedestrian traffic; therefore, cyclists and pedestrians must use the road. During high tide, an inland alternative route via the D156 and D249 is recommended on the GR 223.
The Pont de la Roque in the municipality of Heugueville-sur-Sienne is also a viewing point for the mascaret, approximately 30 minutes before high tide.
Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Pierre consists of four bays in the nave and a fifth bay forming a false transept with one chapel each to the north and south. To the east, a three-bay choir with a flat end completes the building.
The first references to the Church of Saint-Pierre in Heugueville-sur-Sienne date back to the 11th century; around 1080, Renaud d’Orval transferred it to Lessay Abbey. During the Hundred Years’ War, between the 14th and 16th centuries, the Church of Saint-Pierre was partially destroyed; the upper part of the tower and the portal were subsequently remodelled.
Coutances Cathedral of Notre-Dame is a church in the area surrounding Heugueville-sur-Sienne.
