Flottemanville: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

One of Flottemanville’s defining landmarks is the Manoir de la Cour, a Renaissance residence in the Cotentin that has been documented since the 13th century, enlarged in the 17th century and remodelled in the following century. Two octagonal towers flank the central residential wing.

Culture

The protected status of the Manoir de la Cour covers the façades and roofs of the residence, the large salon and the chapel, the façades and roofs of the outbuildings, the area of the former garden with its hydraulic network, as well as two access avenues.

The Église Saint-Clément de Flottemanville was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. It houses a 17th-century hexagonal baldachin high altar with six twisted columns decorated with vine leaves. The altarpiece is located on the eastern wall of the tower chapel and is attributed to the transition from the 16th to the 17th century.

The church’s furnishings include a polychrome-painted limestone statue of Saint Clement with a niche and a stucco pedestal. The statue’s head was renewed in the 16th century; the niche and pedestal date from the 18th century. The statue of Saint Clement and its pedestal were restored in 2014. As part of the church’s restoration, the large painting of Saint Clement behind the high altar was also intended to be restored.

Flottemanville cemetery contains the coffin-shaped grave of the parish priest Ferdinand-Louis Durel, who died in 1886.

Nature and trails

The picturesque hamlet of Cul-de-Fer on the Merderet is particularly known for its medieval bridges and an old mill. Three small Roman bridges once led pedestrians and laden pack donkeys across the Merderet there to a mill.

The “Gués et chemins muletiers” walking route follows paths in Hémévez and Flottemanville, runs through the surroundings of the Merderet’s streams and their mule bridges, and is an easy 13.7-kilometre tour with a stated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes.

The former intermunicipal tourist office of Bocage Valognais offered numerous hiking routes and discovery trails in the Valognes area and the neighbouring municipalities.

Orientation

The church is located about 900 metres from the hamlet of Le Ruage, where the town hall and the presbytery are located; the railway line runs between them.
