Cultural heritage sites in Saonnet include the Château de Berné and the Church of Saint-Germain. The dovecote of the Château de Berné is cylindrical and has a diameter of 9 metres. It is built of rammed earth and limewashed inside, has 1,200 nesting holes on two levels, as well as a roof structure with a central post and a movable ladder. The Château de Berné is located in Saonnet and was built under Louis XIII. The dovecote is situated in the Parc naturel régional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin, was classified as a historic monument by decree of 14 December 2000, and is considered the only surviving dovecote made of rammed earth in Lower Normandy.
Culture
The Church of Saint-Germain in Saonnet contains a stained-glass window entitled “Christ au Sacré-Coeur” and preserves a relatively well-preserved Romanesque choir. The church tower preserves vaults from the 12th century. Two Early Gothic credence niches have also been preserved in the sanctuary.
Another historical trace is the archaeological pottery kiln site of Saonnet on the ruisseau de la Poterie stream. A very large quantity of ceramics was discovered at the pottery kiln site. A test excavation on plot C 125 in Saonnet revealed the remains of a buried pottery kiln beneath a thick layer of small ceramic shards.
