Saint-Jean-De-Livet: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Jean is one of the smallest and oldest churches in the Pays d’Auge. It is fully listed as a historic monument; the listing took place on 11 March 1968.

Culture and History

The eastern façade of the Église Saint-Jean features small triangular openings. Its masonry displays alternating regular and herringbone patterns. Inside are a painted stone statue of the Vierge à l’Enfant, probably dating from the 15th century, and a polychrome wooden statue of Saint Lubin, probably dating from the 17th century.

The Colombier of Saint-Jean-de-Livet was built mainly in the 17th century. It was listed as a historic monument by decree of 9 September 1933.

The Ancienne chapelle Sainte-Barbe dates from the late 16th century. Before the French Revolution, Mass was celebrated there every Sunday. A half-timbered building from the former convent has been preserved beside the chapel.

Hiking and Scenery

“Sur les traces de Sainte-Barbe” is an easy, 6-kilometre circular hiking trail that takes around two hours and starts in Saint-Jean-de-Livet. The starting point is at the car park of the Saint-Jean-de-Livet town hall; there is also a boules court and a picnic table there.

“Sur les traces de Sainte-Barbe” offers a panorama of the Touques Valley.
