Culture and History
The nave, choir and bell tower of the Église Notre-Dame du Rosaire date from the 13th century. The Église Notre-Dame du Rosaire has been listed as a historic monument since 11 October 1930.
The “Vieilles Cités” in Rue de la Libération consist of four blocks, each with six apartments built of limestone rubble masonry. Potigny's former water tower has been repurposed and stands above a 20-metre-deep well that once supplied the miners' housing estates with water.
The miners' housing estates Cité de la Gare, Cité de la Sente aux Anes, Cité d’Ussy and Cité du Suvez, built by Edouard Lecomte, comprise eight different models of brick houses with limestone friezes on the façades.
The Chapelle Sainte-Barbe in Potigny was built entirely by volunteer miners. It is dedicated to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, firefighters and blasters. A Polish-language service is held on Sunday mornings in the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Czestochowa.
