Mézidon-Canon: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The protected estate of the Château de Canon includes a park, charterhouses, a Chinese kiosk, the Temple of the Weeping, a dovecote and the so-called Target Fountain. Culture

The Église Saint Pierre du Breuil-Mézidon is built of Caen stone and has a 15th-century porch. The Jean-Jaurès School and the annex town hall of Canon are also part of the local architectural history: both buildings were constructed in 1932 by the Wilkin architects. Their façades and roofs were classified as historic monuments by a decree dated 5 July 2010. At the same time, the Jean-Jaurès School and the annex town hall of Canon are considered an emblematic example of Art Deco in civil architecture.

History

The first foundation of Sainte-Barbe is dated to approximately 1055. In the 12th century, a priory was founded in Sainte-Barbe to house the relics of the young martyr. The tithe barn is now the only surviving building of the former Sainte-Barbe Abbey.

Visit

Due to construction work, only the kitchens, outbuildings, park and gardens of the Château de Canon are currently open for visits; the ground floor of the château is due to reopen soon. In July and August, Château de Canon offers one-hour guided tours of the château daily at 3:00 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., as well as 45-minute narrated tours on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

LA LOCO is an HQE building set in a four-hectare wooded park and is fully accessible to people with reduced mobility. The building is located near Mézidon Vallée d’Auge railway station.
