Le Torquesne: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Le Torquesne is a traditional village in the Norman bocage countryside.
Anyone wishing to discover Le Torquesne and rent a holiday apartment for their stay can include this destination in their travel plans.
Nature
The “Au coeur du bocage” circular walking trail is a loop route on foot in Le Torquesne. It is 11.0 kilometres long, starts at the main car park and has a stated elevation difference of 193 metres. The route runs along hedgerows and paths; one section passes through orchards. It also passes the calvary and the church. At the cemetery, an information board provides details about the church and notable graves.
Culture and History
The church in Le Torquesne is currently used only on rare occasions. These include weddings, funerals, a Mass for the patronal feast, a meal for older residents and the annual meeting of the Confraternity of Charity.
The Church of Notre-Dame de la Nativité in Le Torquesne has an oval baptismal font with a base, which presumably dates from the time of Louis XIV. The central altarpiece depicts the Adoration of the Magi. The Stations of the Cross consist of 14 paintings created around 1880 by the Parisian painter Alcan.
In the village cemetery of Le Torquesne, the upright, decorated tombstones of the Lessard family are considered an example of 19th-century funerary architecture. The cemetery is also home to the grave of J. F. Esmont de la Rosière, the second husband of Mademoiselle de Nocey, the last descendant of the lords of Le Torquesne. The grave of Louis Dodier, who served as a model for the photographer H. Humbert de Molard, is also located in the village cemetery.
Community Life
The Fête de la Sainte Madeleine is Le Torquesne’s village festival and takes place on the third Sunday in July. The tennis court in Le Torquesne is managed.
