Heurtevent: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Jacques in Heurtevent dates from two clearly defined construction phases: it was built in the 16th century and remodelled in the 18th century. The church is located in the Vie valley.

Culture and History

The Manoir de la Cour Thomas is an 18th-century half-timbered manor house that is visible from the road and can be visited by prior arrangement. The main construction phases of the manor house in Heurtevent date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Its façades and roofs were partially listed as historic monuments by decree of 18 February 1975. The manor house in Heurtevent is privately owned.

A church contains an engraved stone bearing a French inscription from 1894.

Landscape and Village Character

A striking natural feature is the cemetery yew in Heurtevent: its trunk circumference is 3 metres, and it is more than 20 metres tall.

Cheese-Making History

The local history includes the former cheese dairy in La Couture (Heurtevent). It was founded around 1901 by Claude Pascal Cucu, operated by the cheese merchant Ambroise Mulois from 1908, produced Livarot, and ceased operations around 1917. The openings in the western gable wall of a former cheese dairy suggest that Livarot and Camembert cheeses were matured there.

At the Ferme de la Chapellerie, the family began producing milk in 1983. From 1997 onwards, the herd was gradually converted to consist exclusively of Normandy cows.
