The Cité d’Anchin is a very large mining settlement built in the 1920s. It has a strictly orthogonal street network; the houses are grouped in pairs. The upper façades are decorated with friezes, bands and patterns made of white bricks. Also part of the mining history is the Cité Deblock, built at the end of the 1920s and connected to Shaft No. 4 of the Compagnie des mines de Courrières. Its friezes and patterns combine terracotta bricks with white bricks.

History

The Lens-Sallaumines German military cemetery is the final resting place of 15,648 victims of the First World War, including 15,646 Germans and two former Soviet citizens.

The former Notre-Dame-des-Cités chapel is a traditionally crafted building dating from 1954–1955. It stands in a mining settlement at the end of a cul-de-sac. The small rectangular building consists of white-painted concrete breeze blocks and is marked on the façade by a wooden cross.

The Maison de l’art et de la communication de Sallaumines is a multidisciplinary building with an event hall seating 350 people, a library, a dance school and a music school. It also includes workshops for artistic expression, a 180 m² contemporary art gallery and a 40 m² flexible exhibition space.
