Carency is associated with the mine warfare that took place there in the first months of 1915. The village of Carency was completely recaptured by German troops on 9 May 1915 during the French Artois Offensive.

The Comité historique de Carency provides a series of documents about the town's past. The Canadian National Vimy Memorial is located nearby. The historic sites Abbaye du Vivier and Abbaye Saint-Vaast d'Arras are also located in the vicinity of Carency.

The Circuit des Hauts-lieux de la Grande Guerre en Artois is a 36-kilometre VTC route of moderate difficulty and passes through the municipality of Carency as stop 15.

Nature and Trails

Le Carency is considered the source of the La Deûle River. The Sentier les Dorés Musis hiking trail is 11.5 kilometres long and starts at the car park of Carency Town Hall. It leads over the first foothills of the Artois Plateau and through the Carency Valley, where hedgerows and woodland alternate. The Sentier les Dorés Musis is designated as a three-hour hike with 141 metres of ascent.

Local Tradition

The Confrérie des Dorés Musis was founded in 2015 to promote Tarte au libouli, a traditional dessert from northern France. Its filling falls somewhere between flan and pastry cream.
