Culture and History
The Musée du Touquet-Paris-Plage is located in the forest in Villa Way Side. It houses collections relating to the École d’Étaples, photographic portraits, and modern and contemporary art. Since 17 September 2003, the museum has carried the French designation “Musée de France”.
The Village Suisse is also part of the townscape; it consists of three villas designed in 1905 in the style of Swiss chalets. The Phare de la Canche offers views across the entire seaside resort.
Nature at the Baie de Canche
The Parc Nature de la baie de Canche is a protected area of more than 45 hectares at the northern tip of Le Touquet. From its observation points, visitors can look out over the river estuary; seals and migratory birds can be spotted there. The park provides easier access for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Forêt du Touquet also shapes the landscape. It is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including great spotted woodpeckers, smooth snakes and orchids. Cycle paths run alongside the forest, which is also suitable for a relaxing walk.
Water and Beach
The Centre Nautique de la baie de Canche rents out kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, pedal boats, catamarans, dinghies and windsurfing boards. Land sailing can be learned in Le Touquet from the age of eight through courses, lessons and private tuition.
Local Character
Edible algae and plants such as glasswort, sea aster and sea purslane grow in the Baie de Canche and are valued by chefs. Thus, alongside water, woodland and art, the bay’s distinctive plants are also part of Le Touquet’s characteristic landscape.
