Carvin can be explored through its distinctive cultural landmarks and exceptional landscapes. The square tower of Saint Martin Church was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. The church is the only building in the Arrondissement de Lens classified as a historic monument.
Those who choose Carvin as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment here.
Culture and history
The workers’ housing estate Cité ouvrière dite cité de la Gare in Carvin dates from the fourth quarter of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century. At the Hôtel de Ville de Carvin, the ceremonial hall and the large stained-glass window are considered its most important attractions.
The organ of Saint Martin Church is also part of the town’s cultural life. The Association Présence de l’Orgue organises concerts, organ courses and tours of the organ. In the Cité Saint-Paul in Carvin, information boards provide details about the heritage of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Mining Basin World Heritage Site.
Nature
Parc Malbezin is located on the site of a former chalk quarry that was used to produce lime. It features a limestone grassland area and protected orchids of the species Ophrys apifera.
Activities
The Tour d’Horloge can be reached via the Chemin du Moulin on Rue du Vieux Château. At the Tour d’Horloge, visitors can go for walks, fish and run; they can also discover the diverse local flora and fauna there.
Fishing competitions are preferably held at the Étangs Wacheux. A short hike connects the Tour d’Horloge with the Square Rémy Callot: the route is 12 km long and leads through Carvin and its surrounding area.
