Landscape

From Mont d’Hubert, there is an unobstructed view within a radius of 30 kilometres over the Cap Blanc-Nez area, the Strait of Pas-de-Calais, the English coast and the maritime plain with Dunkirk and the Monts de Flandre.

In the immediate vicinity of Escalles are the Plage du Cap Blanc-Nez beach, the Cap Blanc-Nez cape, the Mont d’Hubert hill and the Le Mont de Sombre hill.

History and Culture

At the summit of the over-133-metre-high Cap Blanc-Nez, the Dover Patrol monument is located in the municipality of Sangatte; it marks the border with Escalles. The Grand Site project included the redevelopment of the Cran d’Escalles.

The Fort Nieulay, a fortress, is also located near Escalles. The fortresses Fort Lapin and Fort Risban are located in the surrounding area. Calais Harbour, a historic site, is also located near Escalles.
