Culture and history

The Saint-Vaast Church stands almost on the site of the former Château de Lécluse, which was completely destroyed in the 17th century. Construction work lasted six years, from 1925 to 1931. Inside, the church has a nave and two aisles, each illuminated by five openings.

The keystone from Lécluse bears relief depictions of coats of arms belonging to Antoine de Croy, Seigneur of Sempy. Until the 17th century, this keystone adorned the chapel of the maladrerie at the exit of the village towards Ecourt-Saint-Quentin. Today, it is located on the village square between the childcare centre and the municipal offices.

The Grotte de Lourdes is considered the oldest replica of the Lourdes Grotto in the Douaisis; it was built in 1878. It is located on Rue du Bois opposite the cemetery, near the stadium. The grotto was built by Madame Feugey-Labalette out of gratitude for the healing of a child.

La Pierre du Diable is located near the road to Etaing. According to local legend, the devil threw the stone after a farmer’s pact with him to rebuild a barn before cockcrow had failed.

Literary references also form part of the village’s character: Some poems from Paul Verlaine’s collection Fêtes galantes, published in 1869, appear to have been inspired by the marshes of Lécluse and the surrounding area, including Promenade sentimentale.

Nature

The Circuit autour des marais circular trail runs along the ponds of Lécluse. Numerous animal species can be observed along this circular trail between the marshes and the footbridges.

Local life

Ferme Tricart sells smoked garlic from Arleux, as well as yellow and red onions and shallots.
