The former church portal of Honnecourt-sur-Escaut depicted Christ in Majesty in the tympanum and the Elders of the Apocalypse in the archivolts. On the banks of the Escaut, Honnecourt-sur-Escaut was home to an important Benedictine double abbey from the 7th century until the French Revolution.

Getting Around
The circular route “Un détour par Honnecourt” leads in Honnecourt-sur-Escaut to the church and the village square, then continues along the landscaped towpath to the Banteux lock. In the Haut-Escaut valley, the route combines stretches along the canal with farm tracks and village roads.
