Culture and history

In the 14th century, Puycalvel was the most important and oldest “force” of the Lautrécois, that is, an allied village community. In the 14th century, Puycalvel Castle belonged to the family of the Viscounts of Lautrec. The castle has a passageway secured by a portcullis. Its gateway has a pointed arch and is closed by wooden beams studded with nails.

The Church of Saint-Salvy stands in Montlong. Its chalice dates from the 19th century, is kept in the sacristy, and is made of silver. On 15 July 1988, it was protected as a movable cultural heritage object. The church also has a communion rail consisting of a gallery of fluted columns with pointed-arch arcades; this communion rail was likewise protected as a movable cultural heritage object on 15 July 1988. It houses a Gothic sanctuary dating from the 16th century as well as a statue of Saint Salvy from the 16th century.

The old washhouse in Puycalvel was restored in 2001 and is recommended as a worthwhile excursion destination.
