Culture and History
The Église Saint-Jacques has a single-nave body with three bays, a three-sided choir, and two chapels projecting to the north and south that form a transept. Its vaulting and structural design may date from the 15th or 16th century.
Its furnishings include a 17th-century painting in poor condition depicting a Crucifixion with the Virgin Mary and Saint James, as well as a Saint John the Baptist dating from the 17th century. There is also a gilded and painted reliquary statue of Saint James the Elder. This Église Saint-Jacques stands in Donnazac near the Voie Conques–Toulouse route.
During the 2009/2010 season, the nativity-scene tour in the Pays cordais also included the church in Donnazac. During the Christmas season, the tour was a publicly accessible church-visiting experience in which visitors could see the Nativity scene in each church. The participating churches were open to the public on 27 December and on 3 and 10 January, each time from 2 to 6 p.m.
Nature and Hiking
The Boucle à Donnazac is an easy 8.40 km hiking route. It starts and ends in Donnazac and follows the PR® Sentier des Lavoirs.
Between Donnazac and Arzac, the Boucle à Donnazac passes through the Tarn landscape, going past fields and vineyards. The route offers, in particular, views of stone buildings.
Wine and Local Specialties
Mas d’Aurel is a family-run winery in the Gaillac wine-growing region on the Plateau cordais. Visits to Mas d’Aurel are possible year-round from Monday to Saturday by prior reservation.
The Pass Vigneron at Mas d’Aurel includes a guided tour led by Clara, a passionate winemaker. Due to its orientation and its more clay-rich soils, the municipality of Donnazac is particularly suitable for producing red wines.
